Paint in East Nashville - Saturday

Saturday, November 10, 2012, 9:00 am - whenever!
East Nashville - Between 11th & 12th and Russell & Holly
(Warm up first at Bongo Java - 107 11th)

We've painted in East Nashville several times and it is always both challenging and delightfully fun.  The homes are grand and the churches are beautiful.  There are so many to pick from, we'll probably branch out in all directions.  This is a good starting point; from here you can walk or drive around to find your spot.  (Be smart though - either go in twos, keep another painter in sight or make sure you are in a very public place.)

6th & Russell

Left, is Tulip St., United Methodist Church,
(There were several shots of this in the
last episode of "Nashville")

Will be a gorgeous day.  Come join us on the East side ...

Happy Painting!

Old Hickory Village

Saturday, August 11, 2012 - 8:30-9:00 ish - ???

We've had a brutal Summer, but there's relief in sight for tomorrow, with a high of 85 and no rain!!!

We're going back to our "find of the year" - Old Hickory Village - the "place from the past" where the houses are cottages and the people are friendly. This is just off Old Hickory Blvd., North of The Hermitage and South of the Cumberland River. Besides the charming houses, there is a Black Jack Cove amd the marina restaurant, the Black Pearl, on Riverside Drive.

Suggestion:
Google "Old Hickory, TN" just to see the Village.  It's only a few blocks long, bordored on the NE by Riverside Dr., on which are some lovely old homes.  Riverside Dr. follows Old Hickory Lake.

Directions: From I-40 East
Travel I-40 East past the airport ... Take the Hermitage Exit #221A  (toward The Hermitage)
Stay on Old Hickory Blvd. past The Hermitage and through the little town of Lakewood.
Old Hickory is just past Lakewood
Veer to the Right at Hadley Ave. (across OHB from the Old Hickory Country Club)

The whole area is worth painting, but you might narrow it to between ...
Hadley and Riverside Dr. and 14th and 18th.

Please remember this is a quiet neighborhood and we are visitors ... if you see a property owner, it's a good idea to get permission to photograph or paint their home.

Happy Painting!

Old Hickory Village

Saturday, June 9, 2012 - 8:30 - 12:30
Old Hickory Village

Paint in the morning - 8:30 - 12:30 and/or Lunch around 1:00
at the Black Pearl, Black Jack Cove, marina restaurant on Riverside Dr.

We're going back to OH Village!  I was right, this "place from the past" turned out to be a super place to paint.  The residents of this tiny neighborhood were so warm and friendly and even excited to have us there painting.  (And to think, I wasn't sure if we'd be welcome.)
I even sold the painting I did last week ... "Before the Wedding"!

I suggest you google "Old Hickory, TN" and look for the Village.  You'll see it's just a few blocks long, bordored on the NE by Riverside Dr., on which are some lovely old homes.  Riverside Dr. follows Old Hickory Lake.  Again, I'll be somewhere in the area.

Directions - From I-40 East
Travel I-40 East past the airport ...
Take the Hermitage Exit #221A (like you are going to The Hermitage) but stay on Old Hickory Blvd. Continue past the Hermitage and through the little town of Lakewood, which is now part of Metro.
Shortly after you pass Lakewood, you'll find Old Hickory ...
Veer to the Right at Hadley Ave. (across Old Hickory Blvd. from the Old Hickory Country Club)
The whole area is worth painting ... but you might narrow it to between ...
Hadley Ave. and Riverside Dr., making a Right at 14th, then a Left at Riverside
      and 14th and 8th

Please remember this is a quiet neighborhood and we are visitors ....
(If you see a property owner, it's a good idea to get permission to photograph or paint their home.)

This paintout was planned by The Chestnut Group, in preparation for a show in May.  The owner of the property, Rosalind Roche, has graciously extended the invitation to all plein air painters
Join us if you can.   (This is RAIN or SHINE - plenty of cover.)

PAINT A CASTLE! Wartrace, TN - Tuesday, May 1st - 9:00am - 4:00pm
Paintout for the Nature Conservancy, Duck River Show - All Day - this coming Tuesday!!
(Duck River Watershed area)
4615 Hwy 64, Wartrace, TN 37183042.JPG

On the outskirts of Wartrace, this house is known in the area as "The Castle", as it resembles one sitting atop a rise of a 200+ acre farm. It is owned by John and Rosalind Roche, who just returned from a trip to Japan. Rosalind is also an artist and will be painting with us on Tuesday. She's looking forward to our coming, so please put it on your calendar and join us for a day in the country!

The house was built about 1900, by Henry A. Clark and wife Lizzy Cunningham who's beautiful headstones can be seen in Hollywood Cemetery in Wartrace. It is on the National Register of Historic Places under the name The Henry A Clark Home. This is an artist's dream - to have so much in one spot to paint - The house, gazebo, barn/grain bin and machinery shed, groom's cottage and small old barn. It is on Hwy. 64 approached by a mown lane from bottom to top of garden, tall bamboo stand along the farm road, large pond below the cottage, and beautiful vistas from the garden.

P1100619.JPG041.JPG
Picnic lunches can be eaten in the gazebo, on the verandah or anywhere else. Rest rooms and water/ice in the house, provided by Rosalind. If you'd rather lunch in the tiny town of Wartrace, it's less than 2 miles down the road.
019.JPG

We appreciate so much this great opportunity to paint here - the house is gorgeous and the grounds breathtaking. Come join us - even you new guys!
Very easy to find - about 45 miles South of the Hickory Hollow area of Nashville

Directions:
Take I-24 South to Exit 97
Take Exit 97 for TN-64 (Beech Grove Rd toward Shelbyville / Wartrace / Bell Buckle)
Turn Right on TN-64 W
Follow TN-64 W to 4615 (it's on the right)

Wartrace is another 1.8 miles on this same road. (So, if you get to Wartrace, come back 1.8 mles)

Please email me if you think you might come .... kking84700@aol.com

Let's Paint Saturday - April 7th, 2012!
Morning - Early as you like (me, 9ish) !!
Centennial Park - Nashville

It has been tooooo long since we've gotten together!   This park is where we began and where we try to paint at least once a year.  We usually paint around the lake or sunken garden, which should be in full bloom.  I have no idea of any events there tomorrow, but we should be early enough to find a spot not too crowded.

Come on out, squeeze a little paint and painting into your Easter weekend!

Happy Easter and Happy Painting
