Painting of the Day and Next Location

Here's Cheryl Climer painting the cows from a safe distance last week.

Next Location - Saturday/tomorrow - December 8, 2007 - 7:45 am

The Arcade - Downtown Nashville

(Between 4th & 5th and Church & Union - we'll meet closer to 5th)

This is a great spot (not actually indoors)
both historically and protected from the elements.
If we need to warm up, we can just pop in one of the old shops,
maybe buy some peanuts.

Here are a few links and what has been said about our famous Arcade.
If you haven't been downtown in awhile, this should bring back memories.

This is also one of the art weekends downtown and

there could be some Christmas shoppers around.

Friday, November 30, 2007

Next Location - Saturday - December 1, 2007 - 7:45 am
Hermitage - 1658 Stewarts Ferry Pike - My house/office/studio.
(Come whenever you can, stay as long as like.)

It's nothing fancy, just an old log house - several outbuildings - a mess of turkeys - cows next door - a wooded trail to the lake - you may paint from inside or out - from front porch or deck - whatever turns you on. I'll have a pot of coffee on.

Directions:
Take I-40 East to Old Hickory Blvd. (Exit 221B)
Go right on Old Hickory Blvd. to light (Bell Rd)
Go left on Bell to light (S. New Hope Rd)
Go right on S. New Hope to dead end (Stewarts Ferry Pike)
Go left on Stewarts Ferry to 4th drive on right - 1658 - triple mail box.

If you get lost, call 885-3141 (house) or 884-7710 (office/studio).

Help!
We are trying to find indoor locations for the winter months -
so we can continue our PAN Saturdays. So far, no luck.
Have tried hotels, libraries, and malls, but they don't want us.
The Factory may work sometime, but there were too many
Christmas events going on this weekend.

We'll welcome any suggestions. If you have a spot in mind,
please give them a call first to check it out. If they are agreeable,
please email me with their info, including phone number and webpage
- kking84700@aol.com

Hope to see you tomorrow.

Doug Jones, planning his painting at Hamilton Creek Sailboat Marina, Nashville.
With a misty "lake fog", it started out pretty "cool",
but as the fog gradually lifted the morning warmed up nicely.
Next Location - Saturday, November 10, 2007, 7:45 a.m.
Harlinsdale Farm - Franklin, TN
This is a great location, directly across Franklin Road from The Factory.
This farm was recently bought by the City of Franklin.
Please check out the details in the attached link and
be sure to scroll to the bottom and read the rules.

I was told that you can see several of the buildings from the parking area,
but if you walk straight ahead from there, through the pasture,
you can walk all the way to the river.
(Note: we'll be sharing the park with some Boy Scouts -
which could add some interest to your painting.)

Sunflowers to Paint - South of Franklin.

Sunday - October 7,
Monday - October 8,
Tuesday - October 9,
Friday - October 12,
Sunday - October 14,
Monday - October 15 and
Tuesday - October 16th

We (anyone receiving the Plein Air Nashville email) have been invited by a fellow PAN and Chestnut Group member, Annie Goetze, to paint her amazingly beautiful sunflowers which will be blooming for the next couple weeks. She says there is no need to call ahead, but do stick to the listed days above. The field is out and ready for painters who would like to come - about an acre with rolling hills, cows, barn, rural setting .... pretty. Annie says the sunflowers are not full height, but about 4 feet tall and beautiful. You may want to bring a stool so you can see their tops.

Directions:
From downtown Franklin, go Main Street to West Main, which turns into Carters Creek Pike. About 4 miles out of town will be a V in road (Halfway Market) - stay straight - stay on Carters Creek Pike toward Burwood. You will pass a large lake and Bear Creek Road (sharp curve) on right. Start to look for long black fence on left - end of fence is 4080 Carters Creek Pike. (Driveway before Willow Hall or Willow Creek School.) Sharp drive, pond on the left - go all the way down drive thru gate - cannot miss the field of flowers.

Happy Painting.
Next Location - Saturday, October 6, 2007 - 7:45 AM
Radnor Lake

This is a very tranquil location, loaded with atmosphere. Just remember to stay on the paths (of course, the path edge, not in the way of the other visitors). There will a little hike, but if you have wheels, you can take the road up to the spillway road.

Happy Painting.

Next Location: Cheekwood again !!!
1200 Forrest Park Drive - Nashville, TN 37205 - (615) 356-8000
Saturday - September 29, 2007 - 9:30 am - at the gate !

We had a great turnout last week - twice as many Cheekwood members as guests, so everyone got in. There is so much to paint at this location that we wanted to do it again, however, we're not meeting until 9:30. This is the time they open to the public (and the earliest they want us to start). We will go back to our regular 7:45 ish for other locations.

Same procedure - meet at the gate at 9:30. If you have a Family Membership, you can have three guests. If you have an Individual Membership, you can get yourself in. If you are late, tell Eleanor at the gate that you are meeting the Plein Air Nashville painting party. We will be parking in Area B.

If you want to be a "guest" of a member, please email me by tonight or call my cell.

Saturday, September 22, 2007 - 8:15 am - Cheekwood

Although Cheekwood does not open until 9:30, our start time is 8:15, the earliest time they would let us enter the grounds. Please be there at that time, at the entrance, so we can coordinate the members and guests.

We would like to have a count, so please email me if you will be joining us ..... kking84700@aol.com

My cell number is 513-0511.
Thanks, Bitsy

Interesting work, thought this group might enjoy it. There's a link to his website here in our list of sites to visit. Elio is considering doing a workshop here in Nashville. If you have interest, you can sign up on his website for more information. His unique use of color and the way he brings chroma to canvas is amazing. Leiper's Creek Gallery has a few of his pieces if you get out that way.

Next Location: Cheekwood !!!

1200 Forrest Park Drive Nashville, TN 37205 (615) 356-8000

Saturday - September 22, 2007 - 8:15 am - outside the gate !

On this beautiful 55-acre property there is so much to paint ........ a mansion, gatehouse, gardens, ponds, fountains, statuary and spectacular views over rolling hills.

Although there is a non-member admission fee of $10 ($8 for seniors), we have a few coming with Family Membership, which entitlese them to three guests each. We'll do our best to get you in, but it's worth every penny if we can't. (Of course, we're asking anyone with an Individual Membership or a free pass, to use their own.)

If you plan to come Saturday and are a member of Cheekwood, please email me - kking84700@aol.com - we'd love to take advantage of your three guests.

If you are late, ask the lady at the gate if there are any "guest passes" left for the PleinAir Nashville painting party.

Painters--

What a GREAT turnout we've had the past few weeks! Thanks to everyone who has been coming out! As you know, the heat has been very intense and is expected to be in this holding pattern for several more days. We will take a break this week and see if we can scare this heat wave off and resume painting on Saturday, Aug. 18th.

"Opened in 1822, the City Cemetery is the oldest continuously operated public cemetery in Nashville. A walk through the cemetery is truly a walk through Nashville's history. The gravestones tell the stories ......" David Crockett, Tennessee Robertson Davis, James Robertson .....

We have permission from the Metro Parks and Recreation Dept. to paint Saturday morning. The gates open at 8:00, so that's when we'll start. Their website below mentions some activities by vandals, but don't let that scare you. The Parks Dept. knows we will be there, and they are notifying the Park Police to be on special lookout for us and to make sure the gates are open (4th Ave.) by 8:00.

The Cemetery is on the corner of 4th Ave. South (runs south only) and Oak St. (couple blocks south of Lafayette).
