Saturday - September 27th, 2008 - 8:00 a.m.
Duck River: Fisherman's Park Dam
(Shelbyville)

We've been wanting to go back to the Duck River and seems like a good time. The Dam has been recommended as a very easy access spot. It's in a city park, right below the square in downtown Shelbyville. You can drive right down to the river and has a great view of the dam and old dam house. (If any Chestnut Group member wanted to participate in the upcoming show, this is your last chance. The deadline is tomorrow, the 26th, but we've been given an extra day or two if you paint with PAN Sat.)

Here's a link to a picture of the dam:
Hope to see you at The Duck.
Happy Painting.

See details below (from last week) and
See you at Brownland Farm again tomorrow!!

Here's our Painter of Day from Last Week - September 13th

(Below posted Sept. 12, 2008)
Tomorrow AND next Saturday - September 13 & 20, 2008 - 7:45 a.m. - Noon
Horseshows at Brownland Farm
1155 Hillsboro Rd. - Franklin, TN

Brownland Farm is a horse farm/horse show facility just North of Franklin on Hillsboro Rd. They are having shows the next two weekends so there will be lots of activity at the farm and lots of people and horses to paint (or practice painting). These are hunters and jumpers and the competition starts at 8:00 a.m. (The owners of the farm, Mack and Sissie Anderton, are very generous in allowing us to paint here, especially during a show, but ask that we follow a couple simple rules -see special instructions below.)
Here's a link - http://www.brownlandfarm.com/ with directions and show schedules.

From Hillboro Rd., it's the last right before the bridge over the Harpeth (just N. of Franklin).
From I-65/Cools Springs, take Mack Hatcher to Hillsboro Rd., turn Right, cross the bridge over the Harpeth, then immediately turn left into Brownland Farm.

Special Instructions:
#1 - Parking - We are to park in this lot (if there is room)- which should be your first left turn after the main house. Turn left at this stone wall, then into this field.
If the above field is full - turn right at this sign..."All Day Hauler Parking". (It's right across from the stone wall.)Then, drive straight back to this trailer (to stay away from the "haulers").#2 - Don't spook the horses!
Please do not set up your easels too close to the fences - say 5-6 feet. Just be careful in setting up your easels that you do not scare the horses - they will not know what you are doing.I'm very excited about painting here and hope a bunch of you join me. (Sissie is the sister of the Sclater Brown, the man I worked for - for many years.
The Farm is huge - call me if you want to know where we're painting !! 513-0511
Happy Painting

Tomorrow - September 6, 2008 - 7:45 a.m.
Historic Edgefield

East Nashville is full of history and lovely old homes and churches. We can see it all, plus downtown from this spot - East Park - 700 Woodland St. (The Park actually runs from 6th to 8th and Woodland to Russell.) This will be a good place to meet (and paint), but we can check out the area from here and decide if we want to move a block or so.

Here's a church across the street and a nice "house for sale" on Russell.

Directions:

  • Drive East on Woodland St. to South 6th St.
  • Turn Right on 6th St.
  • Turn Left into the parking lot (East Community Center has a nice lot)

(East Park - is a Metro Parks and Recreation facility)

Hope to see you in the morning - the heat is behind us - the rain is gone - supposed to be dry and beautiful with a few clouds - perfect for painting.

Happy Painting
