Painting Saturday - March 20, 2009 - All day !!!
Columbia, TN
We're going back to Columbia - as there is so much to paint there - The Chestnut Group will be having their show end of April - and the weather will be gorgeous. And, one more reason (for me) - I finally have decent plein air equipment. Received my first Open Box M - picking up my tripod today and will be ready to try her out tomorrow. (No need to be embarrassed to paint with me anymore.)
I'm not going to list any particular place, just copying directions and some of the public places recommended by Annie Daniel and Kay Farrar, heads of TCG upcoming show.
Come South on I 65, take the Saturn Parkway Exit to Hwy 31(Columbia/Spring Hill Exit).
Stay on 31 all the way to Columbia and the intersection of Main Street on the left and 7th Street on your right. If you turn left you will hit the square and the courthouse and to your right you will have the Polk Home ,Churches , parks and Columbia Academy, etc. There are interesting buildings on 6th street as well as 8th street. Some of the iconic and historic properties that have been suggested are:
To your right - 7th Street
James K. Polk Home. -305 W 7th st. The gardens will be open to you
810 S. High St- Polk Presidential Hall
Bell tower as well as the little park both across from the Polk Home
St. Peters Episcopal Church, next to the Polk Home-313 W. 7th
First Presbyterian Church -on the corner of W7th and High St (Dome)
Memorial Bldg. -across from Grace St Lukes Church
Lucius FriersonHouse -next to the Memorial Bldg.
Park on right up the hill across from the post office
The Anthenaeum- Anthenaeum St and 8th st.
Columbia Academy W. 7th street (not walking distance from town)
To your left - Main Street
Maury County Courthouse
Columbia Public Square:
11 Public Sq. The Wheel shop
17 Public Sq. Demondson
21 Public Sq. Morgan Stanley
Fountains at 26 Public Sq
36 Public Sq. Suare Market- (good lunch)
37-38 Public Sq Webster Bldg
40 public Sq Killion's Coffee
117 W 7th and Wiskey Alley
Ted's sporting Goods =806 S. Main St. and the cute building across from Teds.
To the left of 31 on 6th street is the river bridge (Duck R.) over to Riverside Park and the river walk. There's also a cemetery on your left as you enter Columbia.
All of these sights will have general interest to the potential visitors to TCG show. And, as these are all public places, any PAN artist is welcome to paint as well.
Happy Painting!!
